Advisory Board Minutes

April 2009

Members Present: Cecil Flynn, Eileen Beckemeyer, Kay Ehlert, Sharon Heathman, and Neil Crews. LCHD Staff Present: Nola Martz.

Nola opened the meeting welcoming those present.

Cecil Flynn was confirmed in the April election to complete his term. He was the only Trustee member to need to file and was unopposed. The Board of Trustees will elect officers at the May meeting.

Program Reports:

The group received the Quarterly Activity Report for their review. The format is being modified to be more streamlined and consistent across program and contract activities. Eventually, it will become less about quantity (numbers of activities) and more about outcomes achieved through our various programs and services.

Nola reported on Rod's April 7 exercise. The exercise went extremely well. Preliminary numbers show that roughly 10,000 plus households out of 12,500 were reached. The volunteer HAM radio operators did an excellent job. The cooperation between agencies and each community's volunteers was outstanding. The exercise has been accepted by the National Association of City and County Health Officials as a presentation session at their national conference in July. Nola and Rod will be going as co-presenters.

Other Reports:

Member of the Advisory Board, Rev. Liz Deveney, recently attended a summit with Nola sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Health Care Foundation, entitled, "Future Search". The conference was about envisioning the future of health care in our country. Groups completed working sessions which focused on past achievements, current trends in health care, and what our hope for a 'perfect' future health care system would look like. One of the goals was to find the common ground across consumer and provider groups.

Nola recapped the activities of Public Health Week. Highlights included a Board Appreciation Luncheon with current and past trustees, and the reception and plaque presentation to Mr. Jeffries. The day went very well and was enjoyed by all present.

Preparations for the Hospice Foundation of America Teleconference, "Living With Grief" are nearly complete. The Trinity Church of Christ is hosting on April 29th. Registration announcements have been sent out and LCHD has handled advertising and promotion of the event. LCHD is very appreciative of Trinity Church for helping with this program.

There was no further business. Meetings are Quarterly on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Health Department.

The next meeting will be at the Health Department Thursday July 16, at 6:30 p.m.
