Missouri On The Move

Missouri On The MoveMissouri On the Move is a countywide initiative to prevent obesity and improve health by increasing physical activity.

How the Program Works:

The program uses electronic step counters (pedometers) to help participants monitor and motivate an increase in physical activity over a 10 week period. Step counters are worn on the belt or waistband. Participants record their steps daily or weekly in their personal record log and report weekly progress to their team leader.

Goals:

The goal is to increase walking by 2000 steps per day (equivalent to walking about 1 mile) per person. Each individual sets his or her own step goal. This small and achievable increase in physical activity could totally stop the weight gain seen in the population of Missouri over the past decade; and maintain the weight loss of those who lose weight. Our success is to be measured by increased steps and reduced blood pressure.

How to Participate:

Participants will receive an initial blood pressure screening, step counter, and member packet, and complete a pre-survey. The program registration fee is $20 which helps cover the cost of the research-quality step counter and program materials. Team leaders representing various businesses, schools and community organizations will assist in collecting the step log data.
